The Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal (REBAN) has removed 10 percent service charge from its consumers due to the dissatisfaction of the consumers.
REBAN said it decided to do so to protect consumers' concerns. At present, customers are charged with an additional 23 percent when they relish their favorite meals and drinks in restaurants and bars. The 23 percent is split into 13% VAT and 10% service charge.
Issuing a press statement, REBAN said that it had decided to withdraw the 10 percent service charge from all restaurants in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Sauraha and aims to gradually remove the service charge from its affiliates in other districts as well.
On the other hand, the service personnel serving the customers are loosing that share of money. These people are highly demotivated due to which they may loose their interest towards their job. Deepak Karki , a helper in a reputed restaurant in Kathmandu used to draw approximately 18,000 per month including service charges. Now he will be collecting only 12,000 and no service charges.
