Nepal in Post Covid-19: Change to Champion in Tourism

Many things at this point of time remain standstill due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and its subsequent impacts.  The major impact of it can be seen in the tourism industry as it involves travel, stay away from home, and human contact out of many. The virus can be transmitted easily during travel, being at the accommodation centre or receiving services from the facilitators. And the infected person can die from this flue. So traveling seems to be unacceptable. But this is not the end of tourism.

Tourism is a powerful industry that can adapt itself as per the circumstances. As the situation is changing so do the dynamics of tourism. To know more on the prevailing situations of tourism we (Global College International) are conducting a Virtual Panel Discussion/Webinar. The  discussion will shed lights on the present situation and the future prospects of tourism.

The experts of the discussion are

Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi former Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board (National Tourism Organization of Nepal). During his 18+ years of work experience in destination management, tourism promotion and Public Private Partnership, Mr. Joshi has worked with all levels of tourism professionals of Nepal. His contribution to tourism recovery of Nepal post 2015 earthquake was highly noted. At the time, Mr. Joshi successfully led the Tourism Recovery Committee Nepal Secretariat in coordination with the private and public sector. Mr. Joshi was an Executive Council Member of Bird Conservation Nepal from 2009 to 2014. He also served Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) in the Executive Board and Chairperson for Destination Committee-PATA. Currently, he is associated with Task Force Board - Project Hope Travel (a Model of the Travel & Tourism Industry's Global Collaboration).

Mr. Joshi has been awarded the highest IIPT Champions in Challenge Award 2018 from “International Institute for Peace Through Travel and Tourism” at the ITCMS (International Travel Crisis Management Summit) in London, UK. He is the first Nepali to receive this award. Mr. Joshi has a Master’s degree in Social Science and an MBA from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Mr. Bijay Amatya, is more than the CEO of Kora Tours, he’s the heart and soul of this vibrant business that offers unique travel experiences. He’s the best ambassador and spokesperson to showcase the unique stories of the Himalayas, a culture and people, he is proud of.

Bijay began his journey in the travel industry at a young age, after completing his Masters in Economics and Marketing. With over four decades of experience now, he’s jetsetted across 5 continents and walked through almost all the Himalayan Trails in Nepal.

Passionate about nature conservation, bird watching and trekking, he is an avid reader, and most importantly, very much a people’s person which makes him the perfect ambassador to showcase the nature and culture of Nepal and Nepali people.

Mr. Roopesh Shrestha is a seasoned veteran and professional in the field of Management Hospitality and Tourism Industry and as well in the Nepalese Learning & Development as well in Academia for more than a decade, Presently he is serving as Multi-Property/Cluster Director Learning and Development for the American Five star chain Property Marriott Hotels Kathmandu and visiting faculty for various university and colleges and Freelance Motivational & Leadership Trainer in the valley, He has served as Director and Head of School for numerous reputed Hospitality organizations in the country. He is pursuing his Ph.D. Degree in Hospitality Management from Lincoln University, Malaysia and has years of international exposure in different chain hotel, restaurants, Cruise lines. Travelled extensively to different parts of the world including USA, UK, Spain, Portugal, Canada, Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Dubai etc. for Training and workshop. Presently he is also Member in various reputed International clubs like Rotary International, Lions International, Jaycees, and Toastmasters. He has published many articles in reputed journals and national daily newspapers of the country and co-author of Book on Hotel Management for text and trade.

He was the founding members of WhiteHouse School of Hotel management, Presently part of Global College International, worked in Goldengate International Hotel College, Brihaspati Hospitality College under different universities like TribhuvanUniversity, Pubanchal and Pokhara University, Lumbini Buddhist University and Mid-Western University.


Mr. Shrestha is awarded with most prestigious award recently this year with 101 Global Training & Development Minds and also been the panelist discussion on training worldwide along International forum in Mumbai also recognized with many awards for his contribution in Tourism and Hospitality Industry and Academics by Past Vice President, Education Ministers and from different reputed organization within the country.


Mr. Shrestha is a versatile Trainer with Frequent International Exposure and have trained many talents above 1000s from beginners to Top level Managers in Management, Leadership, Life coach and Motivational sessions to uplift the life of people in professional and personal life since almost ten years now. Certified Soft skills and Train the trainer worldwide from Marriott International and Radisson Hotel Group. Frequent and Lead Trainer for Management Association of Nepal (MAN), Nepal Management Council (NMC),KFA, CGIM , HR Society, Jaycees,Lions,Rotary etc.


Recently had training for NCC bank staff all over Nepal on Leadership and Hospitality approach in banking for all branches in Nepal including SBI, MEGA, Himalayan and more as participants in Pokhara, Itahari, Damak, Dhanagadi, Chitwan and so on.
